How to Enjoy the Holidays Without Losing Your Healthy Routine
We’re in that weird week between Christmas and New Year’s where I don’t even know what day it is.
I’m surrounded by more sweets and junk food than I’d like to be, and somehow the cookies keep finding me. You too?
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know how passionate I am about health, fitness, and finding balance — especially during busy seasons like the holidays.
The real question is… will a few festive days turn into weeks (or months) of habits that don’t serve us? Or can we enjoy the foods we love and keep our health goals intact?
That’s the goal.
I recently heard a stat that surprised me: the average American gains up to 6 pounds during the holidays. 😳
So I connected with Coach Cassy at Total Body Wellness to bring us some tips, tricks, and real local resources that actually help us feel our best.
The good news? We don’t have to choose. With a little intention, it’s absolutely possible to enjoy the season and keep our healthy habits intact.
Simple Ways to Stay on Track This Holiday Season
1. Drink. Your. Water.
It sounds basic, but it’s huge. Your cells, literally the foundation of your body, can’t function properly without hydration. Drinking water supports energy levels, digestion, and hunger cues. If you want to feel good, water isn’t optional. Aim for half your body weight in ounces.
2. Set a Goal for Daily Movement
Movement doesn’t have to mean a full workout. Even walking around your house, stretching, or getting in extra steps while running errands counts. Movement matters and every step counts.
3. Eat Protein First, Always
Protein is filling and helps protect lean tissues, including muscle mass. Start with protein, then enjoy the foods you love in moderation.
4. Exercise (In a Way That Works for You)
People who exercise literally live longer. And no, it doesn’t have to mean five days a week at the gym (unless you love that!). Even 10 minutes a few times per week can make a real difference.
I’ll be putting these tips into practice this Holiday season, with the hopes it keeps me balanced and feeling my best!
A Local Resource to Help Us Stay on Track
If sticking to healthy habits during the holidays feels tricky, Coach Cassy at Total Body Wellness is a resource we’re lucky to have right here in our community.
She works with people of all fitness levels to set goals that are actually doable- whether that’s improving nutrition, finding a movement routine that fits our busy lives, or just building better habits one step at a time.
Between nutrition counseling, personal training, and their annual New Year Challenge, she can help create a plan that works (not a one-size-fits-all solution).
Honestly, having someone in your corner makes all the difference, and it’s a gift to ourselves this season.
Because a few days shouldn’t outweigh a whole year. 💪✨
I plan on signing up for their New Year Challenge to start 2026 strong, and I hope some of you join me too! It starts January 18th. (register by emailing cassy@totalbodywellness.com)
